Many organizers love that Hands On Atlanta gives organizers an option to create targeted volunteer opportunities thanks to some of our audience settings!

If you have ever thought to yourself "But I really just want this to be visible to a specific audience", then this help article is for you!

Hands On Atlanta can help you to quickly and very seamlessly create private volunteer opportunities which will restrict signups amongst your volunteers.

Some common examples of how private opportunities are used are:

  • You want to invite only a group of volunteers with specialized training
  • You want to invite a group of volunteers who have completed another specific opportunity
  • You want to target your executive board only
  • You want to restrict signups to only those who have a share link (sometimes sent in newsletters)
  • Many more!

In order to change the Audience Settings, please begin by selecting the Opportunity (or choose this during the creation).

On the first page of the menu, there is a drop-down menu where you can select Open, Private-Open, or Private Closed.

After you have selected your Audience Settings, you have the option to target participants from another organization, or participants from a group.

What do the different settings mean?

Open: An Opportunity that is "Open" means that anyone can see the listing and sign up!

Who is anyone?

That's anyone who uses Hands On Atlanta. If you are looking to recruit new volunteers, this is the ideal audience setting. Your Opportunity will be open to the public.

Private-Open: "Private-Open" is essentially "unlisted." Only the members of the Audiences that you target (whether they are Affiliates of your or any organization/company on Hands On Atlanta or members of a Group you have created) will be able to discover this Opportunity in their Opportunity Feed on the Volunteer Portal. BUT, if you or anyone else shares a Sign-Up Link directly with people outside of the targeted segment, the recipient of those links can can sign up too. This is great for when you want to host a more select group of people, but are okay with people bringing friends.

Private-Closed: "Private-Closed" means that only the members of the Audiences that you target will be able to discover AND sign up for the Opportunity. This audience setting is perfect for Opportunities where volunteers must be vetted; you can create a volunteer group with users that have completed trainings/interviews/etc. and share opportunities only with them!
