Working with 3rd Party Partners

Note: are you a company, school, religious group or service organization placing your volunteers into Opportunities hosted by other non-profits? Check out recommending/curating Opportunities.
For most non-profits and other Opportunity hosts, most interactions with 3rd party organizations relate to creating Private Opportunities for those audiences, but they can also include Days of Service.
Here are some Best Practices...
Is this a short-term or a long-term relationship?
Short Term:
Create an Opportunity and...
- Set it to the "Private-Open" audience setting,
- Add the partner organization's name to the Opportunity title
- Ask for "Company Affiliation" in the Extras section (Can't find this? You may need to upgrade to a Community or Professional Plan to access this feature).
To track engagement, you'll be able to use the Attendance Exports or the automatically-created Group for that Opportunity.
Long-term: manage it yourself or give them access
- You can definitely use the process above for Partners with whom you have long-term relationships, but there are some significant benefits to setting up a Hands On Atlanta Account for your Partners.
I want to manage their "account" myself:
Best for:
Deeper data segmentation & ongoing engagement tracking BUT the Partner doesn't have a highly-engaged main contact (like a dedicated HR/CSR rep).
Good for:
Partner(s) that may want to upgrade in the future but definitely isn't ready yet (or you're not ready to have that conversation!!). Remember - any time a Partners upgrades to a paid plan, you get a referral grant! Contact [email protected] if you have questions.
- Remember: you can always add the Partner's contact person as a Dashboard User later!
They want direct access to the "account"
- You get the same access to their account as in the Short Term section above.
Best for:
A Partner has a hands-on team leader who wants direct access to manage attendance and track engagement.
Great for:
A Partner wants employees/students/members to engage with your organization on a regular basis / on their own time.
Highly recommended:
A Partner has a formal volunteering program and wants industry-leading software to manage it.
